2017 was a great year for horror. You’ve probably already had two months worth of folks telling you as such — including some that have written for this site — but even now it’s still an understatement. I had to leave off a number of great horror flicks, which is why my honorable mentions is almost as long as my regular list, but I wanted to highlight the movies that resonated with me the most, the ones I want to champion.
Nolan is joined by Paul Farrell and Kat Adams, as well as special guests Anya Stanley and Jordan Byrd, to discuss Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby (1968) and Jordan Peele’s Get Out (2017). The group celebrates Women in Horror Month by recommending some of their favorite horror movies directed by women and catches up on their latest horror discoveries before becoming embroiled in a conspiracy which seeks to exploit and control marginalized bodies.

It’s no secret that 2017 was a great year for film, and horror, in particular, had more than its share of moments to shine. In a year that brought us such amazing films as The Girl With All The Gifts, Creep 2, and The Transfiguration — among others — it was difficult to pare this list down to just ten entries. But I somehow managed to do it. In no particular order — because getting this list down to ten films was hard enough — here are my favorites of 2017. May 2018 bring us even more.

2017 may have been a less-than-stellar year in many walks of life, but it bestowed upon us some truly great horror.
2017 was an exceptionally good year for horror movies with something on their mind — whether tackling racism or the cold, cutthroat nature of corporate work — and Blumhouse (and its subsidiary BH Tilt) has been at the forefront of the genre with releases like Get Out and The Belko Experiment.

2017 has been a year filled with real horror. We are constantly reminded of the racism, rape culture, and male violence that continue to fester in our nation. Fortunately for this snowflake of a cuck, there were amazing horror films to escape into. Directors continue to produce strong perspectives in horror cinema, setting up the 2010s to be a revitalization of the genre. From blockbusters like IT to movies that push the genre forward like Get Out and mother!, this year ran the gamut and did so with some amazing additions to the horror family.
